Steve, that looks like a "Geogrid" autorack behind the crane at Moose Jaw. Nice MoW shots. I took a couple of photos there back around '81, and was discouraged from doing so by the local CP cop. Yard held lots of Soo Line freight equipment at the time.

Did you know the new series "Rookie Blue" which is on ABC but filmed in Toronto has a senior officer (maybe the chief) named Boyko? (Trivia for you there)

I write to you from Tiny Town, PA where we are very near one of the largest collection of antique steam engines in the USA. Indeed, my fiancée and I are getting married on Good Old Number 40 in August, such a freak am I about trains. Grew up on trains. In fact, my great grandfather worked for the Union Pacific and was the first person to successfully blow a tunnel through a mountain with nitroglycerin instead of dynamite! I spent nearly four years practically living on trains in Europe.

I have a question about the bridge shown in the 1983 photo Grande Cascapedia River. Was this replaced or was the line re-routed? Roughly when did this happen? I rode the Chaleur in May 2010 but did not see this old bridge.

Nice Indian Head photos, Steve. Not sure what that green CP paper car is doing there, whether its load is inbound or outbound, perhaps bagged grain or other products.

I was able to get a couple of shots at Indian Head around 1983, when there was still an impressive elevator row. Unfortunately it was a gloomy, overcast evening, and even though VIA No 1 passed while we were there, the photos are not that good. Photo editing might help, before posting to Trackside Treasure.

Hi Eric. No sign of any elevators at Dalemead now. There are concrete elevators a few miles each side of the town, though.

It was eerie. I wonder why there was no crew on a train that was only a few miles out of Calgary? I could understand a crew running out of time coming INTO Calgary but this one was headed out.

Nice post Steve. I railfanned that Sub from on board the Canadian in the mid-80's, photographing elevators at most of the towns from the vestibule. Dalemead had an Alberta Wheat Pool and an old Federal(Alberta Pacific) elevator. I'll be posting these to Trackside Treasure. Kind of eerie to come up to a parked train and realize there's no crew on board, eh?

Are you still in the Calgary Area? If so let me know. I can point you to a few other observational locations you may or may not know of.

Also if you're interested, I just heard about an hour ago that 2816 will be on display at "I" yard across from Fort Calgary on July 1st, and might be running to Banff and back on the 2nd.
