Burtts Corner Station

Lauren and I went for a trip to Burtts Corner outside Fredericton to see the old Canadian Pacific station. I hadn't been out there in many years so I thought it would be nice to see it, and take a bike ride up the old line.

As you can see, it's a two-story structure. It looks like the top floor is occupied by the Keswick River Society and the bottom floor is unused. There is a building behind it that appears to be used as a farmer's market on Saturdays.

There are a few rails still in the ground, from a siding. They extend across the road to where the switch would have been.

Biking on the trail was fun, and beautiful. It's very pretty there, with a lot of green vegetation, river views, and flowers. It's too bad there's a few ATV and motorcycle drivers clearly disregarding the signs forbidding them from using the trail.

I see you have visited our little railway station in Burtts Corner. Since you were there, all the windows were smashed and now are boarded over with plywood. The railway bridge was burned with tires so that the trail is now impassable just up from the station. We are having a lot of vandelism in our community and it is very worrisome.

I am a painter and I have painted the station a few times. I really feel sad that it is slowing being destroyed.

It will, however, remain in our memories anyway.

That's a real shame, Joyce. I heard about the bridge being burned on the news, but I didn't realize the station was vandalized too. It's such a nice station.

I don't know what can be done about the rash of vandalism across this province. The windows on the caboose in Fredericton Junction were smashed out, so now they're covered with wire. There have been multiple vandalisms at the New Brunswick Railway Museum. It's epidemic.

hi train geek, you'll be happy to know that the has been sold and that the new owners maintain the property very well. The upper level of the station is now an apartment, and the lower is a dining hall / community center . the building next to it that was used as a farmers market, has been turned into a church
