Trains Return to Lac-Mégantic Today
More than five months after the
rail disaster in Lac-Mégantic
,
a freight train will roll through town today
. The
Montreal, Maine and Atlantic
(MMA) railway is running a short six-car train loaded with prefabricated panels from
Tafisa
, a local manufacturer of particleboard and melamine panels. No dangerous goods will be on the train.
Meanwhile, a
bidder has emerged for the bankrupt MMA
. Railroad Acquisition Holdings, LLC, believed to be a subsidiary of
Fortress Investment Group
. It is expected that more bidders will emerge before the deadline of January 17, 2014.
