Ex-CP 437377 on display in Calgary, Alberta
I saw this caboose on Ogden Road in Calgary, not far from the Ogden shops. I was saddened to see this noble caboose surrounded by ugly chain-link fence. No doubt the caboose suffered enough vandalism to warrant this protection.
Railway equipment on display is meant to be touched, climbed upon, experienced. Personally I feel if you have to put it behind a fence like this, why bother displaying it at all? Noone gets to touch it, you don't have a good view of it, so what is the point?
Again, I understand why. The owners of this caboose (presumably the Legion, since the caboose is in front of it) had to protect the caboose from vandalism. I just wish we lived in a world where this was unnecessary.
It's a real shame.
