Resto Gare
One day when visiting Cora's in the St. Boniface area of Winnipeg, I stumbled across the Resto Gare, a restaurant built into the old CN St. Boniface station and a railway car. Resto Gare features fine French cuisine, appropriate for the French area of Winnipeg.
The car was built by Canadian Car & Foundry (CC&F) in 1914 as observation car #9647 for the Canadian Northern Railway. It became CN sleeper #1458 "TRENTON" and ended its career as CN Rules Instruction Car #15022.
There is still an active rail line behind the station. I believe it is the CN St. Boniface spur but I am not sure.
Someday I'll have to go eat there and have a look inside.

There is a small cafe in High River where I live that operates in a heavyweight diner. Although I'm told the food is good, I have not been there to eat yet. Weird, I'll drive 60km to Calgary on a weekend to hangout at train yard but can't find an hour to go eat in diner car in my own town! Haha!
Cheers,
Jason
We Saint Johners have a new tradition of going to Bernie's diner in Chicopee, MA whenever we're down for the big train show in West Springfield, MA each January. The "steaks" are the size of a dinner plate and about 3" thick. The diner has an old coach attached to it (still on the trucks) and there's always a lineup to get in, so we make reservations before we go down.
