There's a new rail photo web site, Railpictures.ca. It's a moderated rail photo site, similar to Railpictures.net. It's still in beta so the interface is a bit rough, but there are some nice pictures there.
I don't intend to submit any photos there. I gave up on Railpictures.net long ago, as their editorial standards and my idea of a good picture don't seem to agree, and it's not worth my time to try to get on the site. I'm content to post here. :)
Anyway, go check it out!

My love-hate relationship with Railpictures
Long-time readers know that I have a love-hate relationship with RailPictures. I love it when I get my photos into their database, and I hate it when I get rejected.
Well, now I'm a "real" photographer. I am now in their list of photographers, since I have 25 or more photos in their database.

May I say... "woo hoo!"

Success on RailPictures!
I'm not sure why I think this is newsworthy, but I have two more photos on RailPictures.net.
Both were in my last blog post. This was the approach to the Port Daniel bridge:
www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=197564
And this was the train on the Port Daniel bridge:
www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=197562
I'm up to 23 pictures... 2 more to become a "real" photographer. ;)
Persistence pays off sometimes. I made 3 submissions of the bridge shot - one was rejected with "horizon unlevel", so I over-corrected the other way to get another "horizon unlevel" rejection. A few people in the forums suggested I try a shot where the power was emerging from the bridge, and I did that with a truly level shot and it was accepted. I guess that's my recommendation - keep trying. Of course, some shots just aren't going to be accepted no matter how much you fiddle with them.

Do You Think Railpictures Would Like This Shot?

Cracked Railpictures again
With a lot of persistence, I finally got two more photos into Railpictures.net.
This one, of the Rally of Hope train from two weeks ago crossing the Reversing Falls, and this one of the same train at Welsford. I must have caught the screener in a weak moment. ;)

Only 5 more before I will be listed in the photographer list and be considered a "real" photographer. ;)

Another Halifax area Photographer?
Steve Arnot has a number of photos from the Halifax area on Railpictures.net. There are some striking photos in the collection. He clearly has a good telephoto lens! :)
