GWWD 200

GWWD 200
I was running errands on Thursday (Oct 29) and I heard that the Greater Winnipeg Water District Railway (GWWD) might be out and about. I found GWWD 200 switching tank cars outside their yard on Dawson Road in the rain.

Once they put their tank cars away, they ran up to a switch to get ready to head to the yard.

Then they crossed Dawson Road to enter the GWWD yard in St. Boniface.

Despite the rain, I was pleased to see a GWWD unit moving!

I may be dating myself, but some school chums and I once rode on the GWWD to Indian Bay. At that time, in the 1970s, they still provided limited passenger service along the whole line (on weekends I think), catering to day-trippers mostly visiting the lake at the end of the line. I seem to recall the ride was dirt cheap and the train (one of the self propelled railcars) was pretty packed. They even dropped someone off along the Trans-Canada Highway near Hadashville. What and odd and charming line this was and to bad I did not take pictures.

That would have been a fun trip, Chris! I'd love to take a ride on their rail bus but sadly it is only a display unit now.
